Found a red/black variant today at 49.28 60.11, it was red/black in the world before i started battle which surprised me

This was particularly cruel.  I found a Slabwing at 49.87/59.97 that was the black-red version... and it was only a critter.

I found four up as primaries at 41.92, 66.15 just northeast of the Dragonscale Camp flight path.

Despite being made mostly of rock, these creatures can fly. Some attribute this to the strength of their wings, but most agree it's probably just magic.
