You can catch these as a main pet - not backline - in Falconhurst, right near the flight path. (You must complete the quests in the area first.)

After spending two hours farming *in the wrong zone* I finally caught one about three battles after going to the right zone! 

 

Not wasted time, really, since I levelled about six pets while farming. I'm just really glad I saved all those battle stones I didn't need, so I didn't have to worry about finding rares, just capturing the ones I didn't have.

The purple coloration helps this species blend into the rocks and shadows, but the crabs become easy prey for seagulls when they linger too long on the open sand.
